Biography
Dr. Swirsky earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was chief resident in orthopedic surgery. He also holds a Master of Science degree in physical therapy from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, as well as a certificate in athletic training from the University of Florida in Gainesville. His clinical interests include sports medicine, rehabilitation, injury prevention, as well as minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Swirsky specializes in cutting edge arthroscopic surgeries including growth plate sparing ACL surgery and minimally invasive open procedures for the knee, shoulder, ankle and elbow.
Dr. Swirsky is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. Dr. Swirsky has participated in numerous research studies, published in several peer-reviewed journals, and has lectured and presented on topics pertaining to orthopedics and rehabilitation. He has worked to develop injury prevention programs, as well as sophisticated post-operative and post-injury rehabilitation protocols.
Dr. Swirsky is a United States Olympic Committee physician and traveled with the U.S. delegation to the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympic games, in addition to the 2015 Pan American games in Toronto. He is also the former medical director of USA Judo and chairman of the Medical Commission for the International Judo Federation. He is also the former Director of Sports Medicine for Nicklaus Children's Hospital, where he practiced for 18 years.
Locally, Dr. Swirsky has worked with the Florida Panthers hockey team, the U.S. Women’s National Divers, the Fort Lauderdale National Swimmers and Divers, the University of Miami and University of Florida football teams, and was the head team physician for Johnson and Wales University.
Dr. Swirsky is very involved in many youth sports programs, volunteers his time with high school athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties and also covers a variety of high school sporting events as well as football games as the on-field physician. He cares for athletes at all levels from recreational to professionals.
